31.12.2011 is a photography exhibition (blow up) that I co-curated with a fellow student at Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology. The exhibition was constructed around photos that we asked students, faculty, Indian and international artists to submit of the last day of 2011, and we insisted that they mention when (time to the second) and where the photographs were made.
The exhibition arose from a curiosity to know what people in different parts of India and the world were doing on the last day of the year. We weren't resorting to New Year's eve plans but were interested in just any event, mundane or other wise that occurred in the lives of these artists on 31.12.2011. Above all it was our enthusiasm towards photography and gallery practices that lead us in this direction.
As a part of the display we put a time stamp on the images and exhibited them as a reconstruction of the 31st day of 2011.
Below is the poster we designed for the event.
