project came out of 8 weeks of understanding public space and pedagogy. The
intent of this project was to create a public forum to instigate thought about
the social constructs of gender and identity through the concept of clothing.
Clothes are a visual identifier of one's gender. This public intervention took the form of a believable performance of a film
We named the film Nayi Dastaan or New Story as it is inspired by the typical "mucchu" (macho-man) movie but with a twist where the hero of the film lives in a world where men wear saris. The style of the poster was also inspired by the same.
The performance took place at Sigma Mall, Brigade Road and Church Street. The performance involved a journalist interviewing the "hero" about the film and his role and consequently interviewing the people gathered around. For the performance the "hero" was dressed in a salwar suit.
